Festival sui nuovi linguaggi della scena contemporanea, Primavera dei Teatri testimonia la volontà di un piccolo
e suggestivo centro di una tra le regioni più disagiate del territorio nazionale di diventare luogo privilegiato del dibattito culturale nazionale. E conferma la volontà di sfidare la propria condizione di arretratezza culturale, contribuendo al processo di rinnovamento del linguaggio scenico in Italia. Il festival è ormai un polo di riferimento al Sud per la drammaturgia contemporanea e la nuova creatività, cantiere di incontri e confronti tra artisti di diversa estrazione e generazione. Primavera dei Teatri ha contribuito negli anni all'affermazione di molti artisti italiani dell'ultima generazione, alcuni dei quali consacrati in seguito da prestigiosi riconoscimenti. Appuntamento unico nel meridione, il festival riflette sulla società contemporanea, registra idee e interrogativi estetici, punta sui giovani anche rischiando molto. Diretto e organizzato da Scena Verticale, il festival giunge nel giugno 2011 alla dodicesima edizione.
Primavera dei Teatri is a festival intent on promoting new forms of language in theatre on the contemporary
performing arts scene.
The festival represents the will of a small, yet picturesque town (located in what is considered by many to be
one of the most economically depressed areas in Italy) to secure its place as a prime centre within the national
cultural context.
Indeed, the festival asserts the town's wish to defy it's own condition of cultural backwardness, by contributing
to the renewal process of theatre within Italy.
The festival has become a reference point for contemporary drama and cutting-edge creativity in the South and
represents a gathering place where artists from different walks of life can exchange ideas.
Throughout the years, Primavera dei Teatri has contributed to the affirmation of numerous, up-and-coming
Italian artists, among which some who have gone on to receive prestigious awards.
The festival, the only event of its kind in Southern Italy, reflects upon present-day society, takes note of ideas
and aesthetic issues, and takes risks by putting its money on youth.
On February 22, 2010, the festival was awarded the Premio Special UBU, in line with the following rationale:
"Primavera dei Teatri, a now renowned festival dedicated to discovering and promoting young theatre groups,
particularly within the South of Italy, run, with love, by Scena Verticale in Castrovillari, enjoys the avid
participation of citizens, regardless of social class, as rarely occurs with this type of event."
The festival has been organised and directed by Scena Verticale, and will be celebrating it's twelfth edition in
June 2011.
